Topic: | 5,7-dimethoxyflavone content in solar dried Krachaidum |
Abstract: | Krachaidum (Kaempferia parviflora) is an important Thai herb belongs to the Zingiberaceae family. Its rhizome with the age of 8-12 months has been used in Thai traditional medicine. 5,7-Dimethoxyflavone is a major bioactive compound found in krachaidum. In this study, the effect of solar drying on the content of 5,7-dimethoxyflavone in dried krachaidum was investigated. The rhizomes were washed, transversely cut in 0.5 cm slice before drying in a solar greenhouse dryer. The methanolic extract of krachaidum was analyzed for 5,7-dimethoxyflavone content using HPLC. It was found that the drying time for drying krachaidum from the initial moisture content of 70.20% to the final moisture content of 7.14% was 69 h. The drying experiments were performed in duplicate. The contents of 5,7-dimethoxyflavone in fresh and solar dried krachaidum were 4.98 ± 0.28 and 9.01 ± 0.46 mg/g sample (d.b.), respectively. |
