The Department of Food Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Technology, Silpakorn University, extends its heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Werner Muehlbauer from the University of Hohenheim, Germany, on the occasion of receiving an Honorary Doctorate in Food Technology from Silpakorn University for the academic year 2019. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was unable to attend the degree conferral ceremony in that year. However, he recently traveled to Thailand to receive a floral tribute from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at the 2023 Silpakorn University commencement ceremony, held on February 13, 2025.

Currently 84 years old, Prof. Muehlbauer served as a professor at the Department of Agricultural Engineering in the Tropics and Subtropics, University of Hohenheim. He was the doctoral advisor to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bussarakorn Mahayothee (Department of Food Technology) and Dr. Sarawut Pupaichitkul (Department of Materials Science and Engineering). He also mentored Prof. Dr. Serm Janjai (Department of Physics, Faculty of Science) during his postdoctoral research on solar drying technology in 1995.

Prof. Muehlbauer has been instrumental in pioneering, transferring, and supporting the development of the parabolic dome solar drying system at Silpakorn University, which has since been widely implemented across Thailand. In addition, he has contributed as a visiting professor in the Department of Food Technology and the Department of Physics, while also supporting opportunities for faculty members and students to pursue further studies and research at the University of Hohenheim.
